Some Dates for your Diary

The abbey at Mont St Michel is always closed on January 1st, May 1st and December 25th. 31st May – Mont St Michel Marathon. It’s quite an event and we are already almost full. Not a day to visit the Abbey unless you like running. 6th June – Concert in the Abbey at 8.30pm – CONCERTOS POUR 12 CORDES During July and August there are concerts at the cathedral in Dol de Bretagne 11th July – 29th August- The abbey at Mont St Michel stays open until midnight. Valentino

Constance had her first baby yesterday, so the name was easy given it was Valentine’s day. She isn’t doing too badly, but seems to have adopted the tough love approach. When her lamb was only a few hours old, she charged across the field for food. Her lamb was bleating for several minutes before she turned and bleated back… more of ‘I’m over here’ than ‘I’m coming to get you’. Mont St Michel: Our top tips to help make your visit even more enjoyable

Mont St Michel: the most visited site in France outside Paris, and the place nearly all our guests want to visit. So here are some tips on how to plan your visit. Go early or late. The large coach groups tend to arrive at 9.30 and leave by 4.00. So if you arrive at the car park at 8.45 (leave here at 8.30) you will be ahead of the pack during your visit. If you arrive at the car park at 2.30, you will be passing the main crowds leaving as you are heading to the abbey. While everyone is different, we do think you need to allow at least 2 hours...

St Malo

It’s only 30 minutes away, and you can take the scenic route along the coast to get there.  We tend to only visit to pay taxes, register the car and catch the ferry to England. St Malo is really 3 towns, which have merged together.  The heart is the Intramuros, which was flattened by the Allies during WWII, but rebuilt in the style of the 1700’s.  To the south, Saint Servan is a lovely old fishing town.  To the north is Parame, which is essentially a new town.  Beyond Parame, you’ll find the rock sculptures at...

Bread / Du Pain

Bread is a French staple and there is a huge a variety of shapes, sizes and flavours of loaf.  We favour our local bakery for our B&B.  As well as traditional baguettes and croissants, Yves and Marie-Ange make 2 speciality breads that we like. The paysou is a rustic loaf, which I think is made with wholemeal flour.  Historically it would have been ‘peasant’ bread when the less processed flour would have been cheaper. The gache reminds me of a Stottie, which is a traditional flat, round bread from the North East of England....
